Breast Anatomy

The breast is a glandular organ primarily composed of fatty tissue, connective tissue, and lobules, which are clusters of milk-producing glands. Each breast contains 15 to 20 lobes, each connected to a nipple via milk ducts. The areola, the pigmented area surrounding the nipple, contains small glands that lubricate the nipple during breastfeeding. Blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and nerves also run through the breast tissue. In females, breasts play a crucial role in lactation and have secondary sexual characteristics influenced by hormones. In males, breast tissue is present but typically underdeveloped.
